On the morning of Wednesday, October 16, the Country Day community gathered for the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Little School.  After seven years of growth, Country Day enlisted the help of Barnard Architects and The Strong Group to oversee the design and construction of an additional facility, taking the square footage from 3,200 sq. ft. to 10,500 sq. ft.

"The expanded Little School reflects the long-standing commitment to excellence  that defines SCDS," says Country Day Head of School Kef Wilson.  "With even more room for indoor and outdoor learning, The Little School provides an ideal environment for our youngest Hornets to explore, grow and thrive."

Eight new classrooms including two transitional classrooms anchor the expansion.  In addition, the original Little School building has been strategically re-designed to create a dedicated art room, a music and movement room, and much-needed storage.  Outdoor play renovations included the addition of a trike roadway, two age-appropriate playgrounds, a sensory station and a planned vegetable garden.

Careful planning and attention to detail are evident throughout The Little School's renovation, from the selection of stimulating wall colors and the use of natural lighting to the addition of synthetic turf areas that offer a safe outdoor play surface for infants.

"The Little School transformation is truly impressive," enthuses Dr. Pamela Connor, Head of The Little School.
